Will Cut Snapdragons Bloom Indoors? 🌸 Katy Tests This Frost Hack

Cold weather is coming FAST, so Katy decided to try something she recently read:
🌸 If you cut snapdragon stalks before frost — even before they bloom — they might still ...open indoors in a warm vase.

Is it true?
Well… we found mixed information!

✔️ Cut snapdragons often continue opening in a vase if at least a few lower blooms are open.
✔️ They love cool weather, and frost will kill off late-season buds.
⚠️ But there’s no guarantee that early-cut, unopened stems will bloom inside — it depends on how mature the buds are.

So today, before the hard freeze arrives, Katy is giving this experiment a try! ❄️🌸
We’ll check back after Thanksgiving to see if they actually opened up indoors.

Fall potato harvest, onion harvest, November gardening, winter gardening, and VEGO raised bed planting in Ohio! Today Katy digs potatoes & onions and plants carrots and beets for winter.

Fall potato ...and onion harvest day! 🍠🧅
Today I’m working in front of the high tunnel in my VEGO 9-in-1 raised bed, where I planted potatoes and onions late this past summer. They’re finally ready to harvest — and even though they went in late, the results were surprisingly good!

First, we’ll pull the onions, check which ones are ready, sort out the soft ones, and get the best ones curing in the high tunnel. Then we’ll dig into the potatoes — including some bigger-than-expected reds and whites hidden just below the surface.

After harvesting, I replant the raised bed with winter carrots and beets, which grow beautifully in cold weather when protected. I scatter the seeds, lightly cover them with soil, and explain why root crops thrive in winter here in Ohio.
